What are your thoughts on the prize money?

If I rank 1st at the beginning of April for seocontest2008 I will win $1000 USD. Thats a nice bit of money and could buy many things. A new PC, a games console a tiny car or even a holiday. I could get myself a new website or even fund a contest of my own. 2008 could be quite nice if I had $1000 to invest in some SEO for my sites.

However is it enough? Even though only slightly larger, the 2007 seo contest for globalwarming awareness had an expensive car as the prize for 1st place. Having said that it was a larger contest the the seocontest2008 as it required you to rank 1 in all major search engines (yahoo, msn, google) unline the seocontest2008 which needs you to rank 1 in only google.

$2500 would be ideal prize for first place. I expect many more people would enter if the prize was larger. Its how many SEO newbies start out, including myself. Contests like this are great for SEO practice amongst fierce competition.

I would invest some money in off site SEO if the prize was larger. Many people could spend $1000 buying links, which would leave them at no profit when the competition ends. After all, this is the Internet and many people only care in making money.

However if the seocontest2008 prize was $2500, spending $500 on links or even $1000 would leave you in proft.
